Day Tripping

Hubby and I took an overnight trip to Sacramento last weekend to celebrate his birthday. Why Sacto? To visit an art show where one of my friends was displaying her gorgeous handwovens - and just to get away for a day or two. We took the long way north; driving up the 101 to Paso Robles - with stops in Solvang for food, strudel and a quick fiber fix - before cutting over to I5 for the rest of the trip.

At a fast food
stop in Patterson we found this - hundreds and hundreds of birds were in that tree, with more arriving by the minute. It was like a scene from a Hitchcock movie. The noise was incredible (and so were the poop splatters. So glad we didn't park near there.)

After a night at the Larkspur Landing (nice place), we made the obligatory fiber stop at Rumpelstiltskin,
located in a cool refurbished warehouse, before heading next door to the Fox and Goose, a fun English pub with great food.

Our wait for a table didn't seem nearly as long since we were craning our necks the whole time to see all the memorabilia and posters.
My friend said the Sacramento show was about the same as the one in Santa Monica, but with more painters. We thought it was much better. We seldom buy anything in Santa Monica but we definitely made purchases in Sacto, including a pendant handpainted on a shell - and Mr. Silverware Man, our new toothbrush holder. How could we resist a business named Forked Up Art?? Hubby also bought a black and white photo that was hand-colored; I'll try to get a picture of it when it's delivered later this week.

All in all, it was a long drive (almost 800 miles round trip with our little detours) but a lot of fun.
